Business services
File your DBA and publish it — the whole requirement, handled.
If you do business under a name that is not your own, California requires a Fictitious Business Name Statement filed with the county, published in a newspaper once a week for four weeks, with an affidavit of publication filed afterward. Sai Print does all four steps.
Name check & statement
We prepare your Fictitious Business Name Statement with the exact business name, the address, and every owner’s name and residence address.
File with the County Clerk
We file the statement with the Sonoma County Clerk-Recorder and return your stamped, filed copy. The statement is valid for five years.
Newspaper publication
We place the notice in an adjudicated newspaper of general circulation in the county and it runs once a week for four consecutive weeks, within 30 days of filing.
Proof of publication
After the last run, the newspaper issues an affidavit of publication. We file it with the County Clerk within 30 days to complete the requirement.
Who needs to file a DBA
- A sole proprietor using any name other than their own surname, or a name that suggests other owners
- A partnership using a name that does not include every partner’s surname
- An LLC or corporation doing business under a name different from the one registered with the Secretary of State
Banks generally require a filed and published Fictitious Business Name Statement before they will open a business checking account in the DBA name.
What to bring
- The exact fictitious business name you want to register
- The street address where the business is located
- Full legal name and residence address of every owner
- The type of entity (individual, partnership, LLC, corporation, etc.)
- The date you first started — or will start — using the name
- Valid government photo ID
County filing fees and newspaper publication charges are set by the county and the newspaper and are paid in addition to Sai Print’s preparation fee.
Renewals and changes
A Fictitious Business Name Statement expires five years from the date it is filed, or sooner if the facts change — a new owner, a dropped owner, or a change of business name. We can prepare a renewal, an abandonment, or a withdrawal of a partner as needed. A renewal with no change of facts does not have to be re-published.
